Project Location and Access

Suki Kinari Hydropower project is located in the Kaghan Valley in Mansehra District of the Khyber Kyber Pakhtunkwa Province of Pakistan. The valley extends for 155 km rising from an elevation of El 2134 m to its highest point, the Babusar Pass at El 4173 m. The region is alpine in geography and climate with forests and meadows dominating the landscape below peaks that reach over El 5200 m.

The valley is named after the main town of Kaghan. The area can be reached by road from Islamabad via Abbottabad, Mansehra , Balakot and lies on the old route from the plains of Punjab to Gilgit- Hunza and Baltistan.

The road from Balakot ascends along the Kunhar River through the villages of Paras, Shinu, Jared and Mahandri. The valley is somewhat narrow along this stretch. The road beyond Naran is open right up to Babusar Pass from the middle of July up to the end of September. Access is restricted during the high flow and winter seasons due to heavy rains and landslides.
